Our tea is made from Egyptian Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus), also known as Citronella. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans used it to make cosmetics and also used it as a medicinal herb, as its health benefits for the body and skin were well known even then. Lemongrass has a history of use in several cultures around the world, traditionally used to combat fever and as a digestive aid. Lemongrass oil, which has a lemony scent, is referred to in the Bible as calamus oil. It was believed to purify the spirit and was used to offset negative energy and combat bad luck.

Lemongrass tea with its citrus aroma and hint of sweet lemon flavor is refreshingly healthy and promotes clear thinking, reduces stress and improves mood. It contains vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folate), C, as well as manganese, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, calcium, selenium, flavonoids, essential oils and phenolic compounds. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, antidyspeptic, antispasmodic, analgesic, antinociceptive, antipyretic, antidiarrheal, diuretic, fat-burning, tranquilizer properties, which has enormous health benefits.

Detox, Protect, and Boost Your Immune System

Lemongrass contains high levels of antioxidants, which along with its anti-inflammatory properties, help rid the body of harmful free radicals, protect proteins, DNA, and lipids from damage, and help protect the body from oxidative stress and certain chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and a weakened immune system. Meanwhile, the vitamins and nutrients in tea boost the body’s natural immune system, preparing it to fight off common infections, viruses, and illnesses. As a natural diuretic, tea flushes out toxins from the body, cleansing and stimulating the kidneys and liver. Animal laboratory tests conducted by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center show that Lemongrass inhibits the growth of cancer cells, which is thought to be due to the presence of citrate, geranium and chlorogenic acids. Oncologists have been known to recommend it as an adjunct during chemotherapy or radiation therapy to help suppress the formation of secondary tumors. Lemongrass is extremely beneficial for improving cardiovascular health, with tests showing that it can moderately lower blood pressure and significantly slow down the heart rate, thereby reducing excessive strain on the heart. Additional protection is provided by reducing the buildup of cholesterol in the blood vessels and preventing atherosclerosis of the arteries. The anti-inflammatory properties can also reduce inflammation in the arteries and veins, allowing blood to flow more easily, reducing the risk of platelet buildup and subsequent blood clots in the blood vessels.

Antioxidants, particularly isoorientin, chlorogenic acid, and swertiaponin, help prevent cell dysfunction within the coronary arteries. Studies have shown that drinking lemongrass tea daily can increase red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, and packed cell volume in the blood, and prevent anemia. Improved blood flow is a plus for the entire body, inside and out, as it also improves the health of your skin and hair. By inducing sweating and acting as a diuretic, lemongrass helps remove toxins, excess fluid, and sodium from the body, keeping your kidneys healthy and reducing body fat. According to one small study, lemongrass tea increased urine output more than any other beverage.

Lemongrass’s antibiotic, antimicrobial and antiviral properties help protect against viral and bacterial diseases, and are also great for oral health, helping with gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis, and eliminating bad breath. It has also been shown to be very effective against Streptococcus mutans bacteria, which is responsible for much of the tooth decay. It is a great choice for an after-meal drink to freshen your breath. The tea is also known to reduce the likelihood of fungal infections like thrush. Additionally, its antinociceptive properties make it ideal for treating rheumatoid arthritis pain, joint pain and muscle pain by blocking or reducing pain receptors, while its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce swelling.

Helps with Colds, Flu, and Allergies

Antiviral and antibacterial, this tea is the perfect drink for those suffering from chest and sinus congestion and inflammation caused by colds, flu, bronchitis, or asthma. It is also known to be effective against staph bacteria, which causes sore throats. Lemongrass acts as an expectorant, thereby thinning mucus in the throat and respiratory system and allowing it to be expelled, as well as reducing pain. Muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory properties relax the trachea, protecting against coughing and throat irritation. Lemongrass can also reduce fever, which is useful if you have a cold or viral illness. The steam from the tea is also very beneficial for the sinuses, improving air flow in the nasal cavity. Antioxidants help white blood cells move faster throughout the body to fight infection, while essential vitamins and nutrients boost the immune system. Meanwhile, the anti-inflammatory properties help with seasonal allergies and related nasal and throat issues, thereby relieving symptoms of hay fever. Asthma sufferers will benefit from the relaxing properties of the tea, relieving congestion and bronchial constriction.

Healthy Digestion

Historically, Lemongrass tea has been used to treat stomach problems. Drinking it before or after meals can help improve digestion, increase mucus in the stomach, and relieve stomach irritation, gas, acid reflux, and bloating. The anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and cooling properties can help soothe the digestive tract in cases of diarrhea or cramping, relieve pain, and eliminate any harmful bacteria. Lemongrass is also effective in reducing vomiting and nausea. The increase in mucus in the stomach provides additional protection for the stomach lining, preventing it from being eroded by digestive acids, reducing the risk of developing stomach ulcers, and helping existing ulcers to heal.

For Women

With its calming, muscle relaxant, and analgesic properties, Lemongrass tea is ideal for reducing the effects of PMS. As a diuretic, it also helps with bloating and water retention, often associated with menstruation. Menopausal women can get rid of hot flashes, as it has cooling properties. Plus, it will help eliminate mood swings.

Weight Loss and Control

Lemongrass can give you energy, speed up your metabolism, and thus help your body burn excess fat. It will also help you feel full, thereby reducing hunger. A 2013 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that Lemongrass polyphenols increase the oxidation of fatty acids in the body. It also aids digestion, ensuring that more nutrients from food are absorbed, waste is removed from the body more quickly, and, as a natural diuretic, removes excess fluid. An ideal low-calorie and refreshing drink for weight loss.
